All-star shortstop major asset in Sharks playoff push; Interview with Nick Nevins
West Palm Beach, FL. — Throughout the 2021 CLPB season, players have become more familiar and shown their stripes.
Although, nobody seems to be playing with more swagger and textbook gameplay than Parkland Sharks all-star shortstop Nick Nevins.
From Poughkeepsie, New York, Nick is overflowing with motivation and creativity. His free time is spent working out to maintain his physical health and creating his very own clothing brand!
It is rare to find a ballplayer with the same compassion and love for the game as Nick. The drive and incentive he has to get better every day is inspiring.
“A big goal of mine is to take my talents to that next level and start impacting the youth. I expect to keep working and never be satisfied with where I am. I always feel like there is room for improvement no matter what.”
Nick appreciates a lot of different people for his collegiate success and credits ones that motivate him every day to be great.
“My family for always being there, supporting me, and pushing me on those days where my body may be sore and fatigued… and all the people who said I couldn’t make it or show doubt as it has taken my drive to be the best to an even stronger level.”
Nevins plays his school ball at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York. A 3-year player for the Dolphins, Nick studies communications while achieving his baseball dreams and staying close to home.
“I am focusing on taking that conference title and getting to the World Series. I am also working hard for a lifetime goal to hear my name called in that draft.
Nick also highlights his college coaching staff for the opportunities they gave him as a young college ballplayer.
“I would also say thanks to my coaches at school for giving me the opportunity to start as a freshman… It has allowed me to learn the game better and grow not only as a player but become a leader for my teammates.”
The quick-gloved infielder elaborates on what piece of his game has improved the most since his freshman year.
“My defense has come a long way. I believe my arm strength, overall range, and ability to make some plays has increased a lot.”
College teams are beginning to resume fall ball and Nevins is more than ready to kick off his senior season!
“I feel good, I want to clean some things up timing-wise in the box but this is a good step in the right direction. I am excited to start fall inter-squad games and practice with my college team.”
This summer has been gigantic for Nick on both sides of the diamond. Flawless glovework at shortstop and notching a .354 batting average with 28 hits and 15 RBI’s, Nevins has been a major reason why the Sharks have won 7 of their last 10 games.
Nevins was scheduled to play in the CLPB last year, but COVID-19 sidelined him from the 2020 season. Now a first-year member of the Parkland Sharks, Nick has loved the transition to summer baseball in South Florida.
“It has been really enjoyable… the transition has been fun and sweaty. It is very easy to stay loose in the heat which no athlete can complain about. Most of the facilities are unbelievable, you can’t ask for too much more.”
As the 2021 CLPB regular season begins to wind down and the playoff picture begins to arise, the Parkland Sharks have a 3-game win streak rolling with Nick Nevins leading the charge! He knows exactly what needs to be done for the Sharks to make the playoffs.
“We just gotta keep the ball rolling with our offense being extremely hot right now and our pitchers are filling the zone up. As long as everyone keeps doing their jobs, I believe we can walk away with a trophy at the end of this season.”
Parkland has taken sole possession of second place in the South Division with only a week left in the season.
