Tommy Allman is a 6’1, 190 lb. right-handed pitcher out of Michigan. Allman recently graduated from Orchard Lake St. Marys Prep and is attending Jacksonville University this fall where he will continue his baseball career.
Q: What made you decide to come down and play in West Palm Beach all the way from your hometown Michigan to join the CLPB?
A: Coming from Michigan the weather is a lot different. Playing in the nice weather is a lot better and will help me get ready for college at Jacksonville University. Also, another incoming freshman at JU will be on the Snowbirds with me.
Q: What are your expectations this coming season with the CLPB?
A: I don’t have many expectations coming into this season with the CLPB except to have a good time. I’m just excited to be down there and to train at Cressey.
Q: How excited are you to start your baseball career at Jacksonville University this Fall and what made you choose Jacksonville University?
A: I am very excited. Going down to school to play baseball in Florida will be a whole new experience for me. Choosing JU was pretty easy after I met with all the coaches. The coaching staff is great and the program their running will help develop myself as a player. The location and the weather are unbeatable as well.
Q: What are some of your greatest baseball achievements so far?
A: In 2019 my team won the State title here in Michigan. After losing a season to the Corona Virus, our team built chemistry through workouts, practices, etc. Coming into the 2021 season we were ranked 7th in the nation preseason. After a couple weeks of games, we were moved up to 5th in the nation.
Q: So, being a RHP, what are the different pitches you have in your arsenal and what is your go to pitch to throw?
A: In my arsenal I have a fastball, changeup, curveball, and a slider. My go to pitch is my fastball for sure. In situations, I have always had a pretty good slider until this season I have picked up a sharp breaking ball. This season I have been using that breaking ball more often.
Q: What area of your game do you feel that you can improve on the most this summer with the CLPB?
A: An area that I feel I can improve the most on this summer is the command of my off speed. Also with that command, I would like to work on the consistency with of each pitch.
Q: On days you know you will be on the mound pitching, what does your preparation and pregame routine look like?
A: My preparation on game day is pretty simple. First, I make sure to get a good night’s sleep and have a good breakfast. Here in Michigan it is pretty cold in the mornings. I like to go out into the cold in my shorts and just breathe. When I get to the field I don’t like to do anything until I have to. Once I begin warming up I get into my zone.
Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies/activities to do other than baseball?
A: Some of my favorite hobbies other than baseball are grilling, longboarding, and just hanging out with friends. Nothing beats a warm night with a nice sunset.
Q: What major league players would you say that you look up to the most and try to model your game after?
A: I like to watch many different players to find out what I like and don’t like. If a pitcher has something I like I may try to model that individual thing. At the end of the day I want to have my own pitching style and use other’s styles to learn and add to my own.
